I. LOVE. ALL. THINGS. VINTAGE. AND. PIN UP. Specifically the 1950s. There is just a
certain something about it. The toys….the music….and the style. Oh dear, the
style…I can't even begin to describe how much I love the style of clothes back
then. The colors, the patterns and the silhouettes. The All the swing skirts, all the fluffy, flowy dresses and all the
beautiful flower patterns a girl can ask for.
So I have been slowly incorporating vintage styling into my
everyday wear, whether it's true to the soul vintage, vintage reproductions
and/or seeing what I can find in a "big box store", like Target and
JCPenney to name a couple. Every once in a while, I would have discovered a
true vintage beauty that fits me like a glove, but do the wonderful size I am I
stick to reproductions. Depending on where I'm shopping, I'm either plus size
or not.My advice that I tell everyone:
↠ ↠ ↠ KNOW YOUR MEASUREMENTS LADIES. ↞ ↞ ↞
And more importantly --- Don't be ashamed of them. YOU ARE A
GORGEOUS WORK OF ART.
Back then, women wear dresses and skirts all day every day. They didn't seem to have a reason to either. These days if a woman dresses up, people get all weird and ask "Where you goin'??" or "Why you so dressed up???" Being an introvert, this brings up certain kinds of feelings that I'm going to try not to express here, but I'll sum it up for you by answering those two questions…
"…and where you goin' so
dressed up?"
"I got
places to go and people to see…" *smiling
& thinking to myself "IT'S NOT ANY OF YOUR BUSINESS BUT OKAY…"*
OR
"Why you so dressed
up?!?"
"...why aren't you?" (or my favorite, more used answer) "…it's too hot for pants." *smiling & thinking to myself "IT'S NOT
ANY OF YOUR DANG BUSINESS….AND YOU HAVE HOLES IN YOUR T-SHIRT" haha
I like to think of myself as a somewhat private person,
so I hope you can sort of imagine how I feel when I'm asked what I think are
silly questions like that.
The way someone is dressed, no matter if it's casual or to the nines, it's another creative form of self expression. We need to enjoy it, have fun with it and more importantly, express our true-selves to any and everyone.
